College Relations

Committee Chair - Jacqueline Benitez

We realize the challenges encountered by college students as they prepare to start their careers.  Our goal is to help these soon-to-be professionals make a smooth transition into the workforce by providing them with professional support and development opportunities that will aid them in their roles as HR practitioners.

Communications

Committee Chairs - Grislea Rodriguez and Beth Straszewski

It's hard enough handling all of the day-to-day issues that arise in your organization in addition to keeping abreast of the constant changes in the HR field. That's where we come in. The Communications Committee is focused on providing the Chicagoland HR community with timely, pertinent and topical information that’s just a click away! Through the continuing development of the SHRP website and partnering with the other committees, we strive to keep our website fresh and relevant to support your professional development.

Diversity

Committee Chair - Laura Bellis

The SHRP Diversity Committee exists to foster an inclusive environment within SHRP through behaviors, image and reputation.  Through the use of webinars and focus groups, the committee will facilitate meaningful discussions that pertain to inclusive environments, diversity best practices, and change management, as well as offer networking opportunities for peers and professionals.  Ensuring that SHRP is viewed both internally and externally as an inclusive organization that values differences and supports all members and affiliates is a primary goal of the events and resources offered through our committee.

Educate U

Committee Co-Chairs - Cindi Hall-Ferro and Debi Lusk

Our Educate U Committee offers classes to help HR Professionals prepare for HRCI Certification Exam and maintain their certification.

Obtaining and maintaining professional certification is an important commitment for HR professionals.  Certification has become increasingly more important for continued career advancement; therefore, Educate U Committee focuses programs to support SHRP members and non-members to prepare for the certification exam, as well as provide on-going educational opportunities to maintain their certification.

The Educate U Committee is a resource through SHRP Association offering specific programs that qualify for HRCI re-certification hours to maintain your certification.  Additionally, Educate U organizes and facilitates HRReview© Start Smart and Last Minute Programs.  The programs are offered to members and non-members to prepare for initial certification exam or re-certification for the PHR® (Professional in Human Resources) and SPHR® (Senior Professional in Human Resources).

Educate U identifies and coordinates educational programs that meet certification credit hours, as well as facilitates the HRReview© Start Smart and Last Minute Programs.

Membership

Committee Co-Chairs - Julia Katz and Vickie Lenchner

HR professionals, practitioners and students have a wealth of information and resources at their fingertips through SHRP, but many may not be aware of this.  We need your help reaching them and getting the word out about our many benefits, programs, and activities.  Join our committee and share your creative ideas and experiences to help us recruit new members!

Professional Referral

Committee Chair - Cindi Ferrara-Elstien

“It’s not necessarily what you know, but who you know.”  SHRP offers networking assistance to HR professionals in their job search efforts.  Help bridge the gap by assisting fellow HR professionals during an unexpected job transition by directing them to valuable support programs such as SHRP’s “Members in Transition” and website job bank.

Programs

Committee Chairs Tammy Cowser

Getting an education and learning on the job are great ways to establish and develop your skills. But did you know that you have another great resource through SHRP to help you continue to learn and grow? Our committee focuses on sourcing and coordinating monthly development and educational programs, SHRP Talk roundtables, and SHRP's annual dinner meeting. We select the topics and speakers for these periodic seminars and workshops. We also work with the HRCI and Membership committees on program design, collecting feedback on our offerings, and ideas for new programs.

Strategic Partnership

Committee Chair - Jim Barber

SHRP is a great resource to the HR community and our goal is to increase the awareness of our organization by reaching as many HR professionals as possible.  Only through our efforts can SHRP develop a closer relationship with the local media and community and be viewed as a trusted name in the Chicagoland area.

Workforce Readiness

Committee Chair - Roxanne Cordice

Workforce Readiness is defined as the preparation of students for entry into the workforce and the assisting of adults who are joining/rejoining the workforce. Our goal is to encourage SHRP members to share their time and talents by reaching out to adults re-entering the workforce and students to prepare them for their entrance into tomorrow's professional world. We partner with a diverse range of community organizations to offer activities that reinforce this goal.
